Digital Tools and Apps for Higher Education Class Rooms
Notes on Dr. K. Samuel Johnson’s Lectures on 8th June, 2020
Dr. K. Samuel Johnson made the faculty members familiar with the digital tools and useful apps for online classrooms. Before he started the discussion, he made the participants familiar with the etiquettes of attending online meetings. He mentioned the following points during his lecture:
Preparing personal websites quickly using the website https://linktr.ee/
Opening an account in Linked in and preparing individual profile.
Use of the website https://whiteboard.fi/ which can help to take online classes.
Uploading video and audio in PowerPoint presentation.
Apart from mentioning these tools he suggested the new faculties to maintain files and to illustrate the point he was showing the files which he maintains in his own computer. These files clearly mention the subject/theme and the sub-files also mention the dates and the subject in an unambiguous way.
Apart from mentioning those tools, he also tried to motivate the newly joined teachers. He interpreted the acronym VIT (of Vellore Institute of Technology) as Very Important Teacher and these teachers should be equipped with Valuable Information Technology which is again another interpretation of the same acronym. In the second session Dr. Johnson primarily focused on the work ethics of VIT and he also suggested the participants to give priority to family. Apart from this preaching, he taught how to create DIY stylus. To prepare stylus he refers some useful tools like Boya headphone, light and for sound egg trays. Furthermore, he also suggested how studio can be prepared at home with minimum expense for video recording.
